Protect Your Skin This Summer

The first official day of summer is still almost two months away, but many people will soon be spending their weekends in the sun and maybe taking an early vacation from work. No matter how much time you plan on being in the sun over the next few months, it’s important to know that even a few hours of direct sunlight can cause lasting damage to your skin. Even worse, diseases like skin cancers can develop from a single sun burn, even years or decades after it happens. To keep your skin and your entire body healthy this summer, take a look at the following tips.

Of course, wearing sunscreen is an obvious and important way to protect your skin from ultraviolet rays, but not every type of sunscreen is as effective as it needs to be. If you notice that your skin is still turning red after using a particular brand or strength of sunburn, you may not be using enough, or you may need to try something different altogether.

Staying out of the sun between the peak hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is also a good idea when possible. This is when the sun is at the highest point in the sky, putting you at the highest risk of UV exposure. We understand that staying inside during these hours isn’t always possible or even desirable, but try to limit it when you can.

Finally, wearing the right type of clothes is very important. Make sure you are wearing clothes that cover as much of your skin as possible, and don’t forget about your face. Even if you have a lot of hair, the top of your head can still get burnt, so bring along a hat when you plan on being outside for a while.

Follow these tips and you should be able to keep your skin safe in the coming months!
